Sebagai tindak lanjut dari post sebelumnya, I want to give you an eye-opening info.
I study in NTU. Most of NTU's students in graduate studies are Indian and Chinese (from China).
Now, let me start with Indian students.
This is some cuts of my conversations in early week of 1st semester.
Me: Hi. My name is Sheila. What is you name?
Indian student: Hi. My name is Khatir (alias).
Me. Nice to meet you. Are you from India?
Indian student: Ya. I think you know it just from looking at my face.
Me: Ya. Hehehe
Indian student: Where do you come from?
Me: Indonesia.
Indian student: Oh, Indonesia. Everything is cheap there. I can be rich if I move to Indonesia.
Me: Hahaha (didalam hati: So, the only thing you know is our exteremly bad currency...! Nice...)
Other Indian student who like to chat with me in YM.
Indian student 2: Hi Sheila.
Me: Hi.
Indian student 2: Hey, I've heard that there is a flood in Indonetia.
Me: Ya (sambil mikir "kok Indonetia ya? Apa salah ketik?)
My country has been affected by the Monsun.
Indian student 2: Oh, Indonetia is so unfortunate....
Setiap kali dia chat, pasti nulisnya Indonetia.
I-N-D-O-N-E-T-I-A....
Now, I know that even our fellow Asian people from India don't know how to spell INDONESIA.
I know how to spell INDIA.
Long before the Indians are famous for IT outsourcing.
I know where is India. I know about Nehru and his contribution to the KTT Asia-Africa.
Guru SD kita mengajarkan sejarah dan geografi.
I know countries of the world and try to honour them, to be tolerant.
So sad to know this fact. How come the largest archipelago country in the world, 4th largest popullation, 365 languages, 13667 islands, magnificent cultures, abundance of natural resources
and warm people haven't been noticed by Asian people????
One of my chinese friend also asked me to write down Indonesia because he didn't know how to spell it. So sad.....
Be ashamed Indonesia.
yet be strong.
We can survive this "ground zero".
We still have a hope to recover.
Then maybe in 10 years.
All foreign students here in Singapore,
will know about Indonesia.
And most of all, They will know that we are GOOD.
We are GOOD.
